flames!

in other news, I came home to the devastating thought of big sur entrenched in flames. It looks like they finally have the basin complex under control. The eastern edges of the park were scorched, but from the map I saw, it looks like the campground should be okay:

All other reports I read about the fire make it sound like a healthy one: not too hot, not too high, just performing a little cleaning. The photos on that site show a bit of charred earth, but, I'm thinking a hillside covered in an impressive array of spring wildflowers. that's my hope.

You may or may not know that big sur holds a very special place in my heart. I spent summer vacations camping there, meeting new friends from around the world, and as an adult I brought my friends, who brought theirs, which is how I met J. And I'm still hoping for the annual october big sur trip. Will keep you posted!
