text talking

Have you ever heard anyone say this, "LOL!" when walking down the street and talking to a friend?

um, sorry... text talking is not for talking. If you have to say "lol," you probably shouldn't be saying it, cos it so obviously wasn't funny enough to make you laugh out loud. In fact, why not say, "that was almost funny, but it didn't make me laugh." Or at least attempt a giggle. But "lol" isn't NOT gonna cut it. there was not enough humor to elicit an emotional response, so stop lying to people. seriously.

Another thing I hate? That stupid "pwned" situation. okay, so someone was "owned" one time many years ago, but gamers fingers just couldn't find the o, so "pwned" was created. and now is all over the internet. And the other day, I was reading an article about hacking via social networking site applications (lovely thought, no?).... and there's this quote.
"Social networks really don't care if you get pawned or not," Hamiel said, using slang referring to a computer user being dominated and humiliated by hackers.
and, uh, did i read that right? did this dude really use "pwned" in a sentence? and then the writer had no idea he was speaking text speak and then wrote it as "pawned"?!!?! wt-fing f?
Dude, if you're gonna use a typo in spoken language, you probably should just pronounce it the way it's meant to be pronounced, no? Typos have NO place in our vernacular, people! are we gonna start saying "I think I'll go to teh (prounounced tea-ah?) store?" Some how that doesn't really work.

In fact, I really think "pwned" should just be stricken from tech speak as well. For whatever reason, that word/phrase/typo irritates the crap out of me.

Pronunciation also depends on who you ask, I've heard "po-ned" but over at purepwnage.com they pronounce it as regular "owned" rgardless of the spelling.

my sister sent me a text the other day, and every other sentence started or ended with LOL. so I ranted in her general direction. cos, when she told me the same stories, she wasn't stifling giggles at the time, so, dude, there's no reason for LOL. maybe a =)

but, haha, that's also text speak and one of my faves.
